Learning Objectives

  • REGIONAL ECONOMICS AND LOCATION THEORY
    The module focuses on the method and practice of regional economics providing a framework of theories and models that explain the location of economic activities, regional and local development.
  • LOCAL DEVELOPMENT AND TERRITORIAL COMPETITIVENESS
    The module focuses on methods and experience to identify and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of a territorial productive system. The module aims to develop knowledge and skills to assess strategies for international business and public policy and to find opportunities for success in the EU context.

  • REGIONAL ECONOMICS AND LOCATION THEORY

    • The location of economic activities in space • The location decision of firms • The identification of market areas for producers • Regional growth theories and models (Keynesian and neoclassical) • Local development theories and approaches

  • LOCAL DEVELOPMENT AND TERRITORIAL COMPETITIVENESS

    • Regional policy instruments and methods • The evaluation of regional policy • The role of European Union in local development and the SMEs sector • EU’s Structural Funds • The programming approach to EU regional policy
