Learning Objectives

  • Political Philosophy. General Theory of Human Rights
    The course deals with the relationship between political philosophy and the genesis and development of human rights.
    The first module aims to provide, through extensive and in-depth analysis of the most relevant philosophical and political theories, knowledge and skills useful for orientation and understanding of issues related to the nature and function of human rights in the context of contemporary societies.
  • Political Philosophy. Implementing Issues on Human Rights
    The second module will focus on the relationship between theory and political practice. The main objective is to stimulate reflection on the feasibility of the theories and approaches examined in the first part of the course. In this respect, particular attention will be paid to the institutional and political dynamics resulting from globalization and to the analysis of political institutions in the euro mediterranean context.

Detailed Course Content

  • Political Philosophy. General Theory of Human Rights

    The arguments developed in the context of the first module are the following: The analysis of the nature and role of human rights under a philosophical perspective. The aim is to deepen the reflection on the basis of a philosophical justification of the need for such rights. A historical, sociological and philosophical analysis on paradigm of the "foreigner" and on issues related to the idea of integration and inclusion.

  • Political Philosophy. Implementing Issues on Human Rights

    The module will focus on the following themes: The philosophical analysis of concepts related to the idea of "conflict" conducted through an interdisciplinary approach. The role of the institutions and the definition of good practices related to political institutional relationship between the protection of human rights and the protection of "vulnerable subjects" (migrants, children, women) in the context of contemporary societies.
